Happy 4th!
It was a toasty day here in The Lone Star State. I am glad to have been here grilling and eating pink lemonade pie and watching the fireworks in Flower Mound with my family before I leave the States.
It's particularly easy to feel patriotic this year with the Olympics on the horizon, and I am lucky enough to have had a 2012 Olympic synchronized swimmer as a former teammate. (See her blog here). I hope to be able to keep up with the Games via the Internet while I'm in Costa Rica!
As far as preparation goes, I am pretty much completely through my shopping list. I have new Chacos, new shorts, new v-necks, an extensive medical kit (and I mean extensive - like, I have a sterile medical tools, all kinds of bandages, alcohol swabs and germicide, and a bunch of medicine), and travel-sized everything. I also got my host family a Texas coffee mug and star spangled salt and pepper shakers. I just need to do laundry and figure out how to pack so that my suitcase is not stuffed bigger than 62" and more than 50lbs. I'm convinced it's an art form.
However, I haven't started my personal statement. I should probably do that...soon. Tomorrow.
I also have some kinks to figure out...like how to exchange dollars to colones in the states without having to exchange more than $100, and how to unlock my dad's old cell phone so that I can put a ICE SIM card in and use it in Costa Rica.
I'm loving every minute of this! T minus 3 days and counting!
