Everything is Green Here...

And that's not just the Texan in me talking.

Oh, hey! So, my day started at 4am. And I got through two flights, a slightly delayed, cloudy and rainy, struggle of a landing in San Jose, Costa Rican immigration and customs, and a bus trip through the most ridiculous traffic I have ever seen without a problem.

Well, except my foundation and nail polish exploded. But that was rather minor and just made the unpacking process take longer. Luckily, your girl brought a bunch of make-up wipes and solved the problem.

After the bus ride, we met our host mothers at the university. The ISA girl with the checklist asked for my name and when I said it the woman next to her (who was my host mom, Ligia) immediately said "Conmigo!" and gave me a kiss on the right cheek (that is such a cool custom, why don't Americans do that?). I also met my host sister, Paula, (who is about my age) and one of my roommates, Nicole. The other roommate will be coming soon. I definitely feel socially awkward here because I'm not used to the culture and my Spanish really sucks. However, Ligia and Paula are both very patient and can speak English rather well when it is necessary. I will definitely start getting used to it.

Each of the students living here get their own room, and I even get my own bathroom! We also have a little kitchen and living space, and a TV. We also have WiFi. We basically have our own little apartment area on the second floor of the house. We get breakfast and dinner, and laundry service once a week. Ligia asked for our preferences. I'm really excited about dinner tonight.

Here's a picture of my room:

I haven't seen much of the city yet, but I love my neighborhood and my host home. I can't wait to see more of San Jose tomorrow when we explore with the program. For now, here is the view from the balcony outside of my room:

 Hasta luego!

Jill
